Smart Cities: allegory of progress in the new century

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reflect on the concept of Smart Cities in the context of rapid urban development, and the advent of digital technologies in many social phenomena of today's global society. Some challenges and opportunities that are behind this widely used concept are analyzed. Particularly aspects from the perspec- tive of Social Sciences arise.
