Abstract
The special issue 97 of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History´s Cartographic Journal on advances, trends, and perspectives of geographic information is related to a digital revolution, which is being developed in our society since the middle of the last century, named the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (Schwab, 2016). This revolution will alter the way we live, work, and relate to each other. In this context, our world is changing rapidly with the advances in the shared economy, Internet of Things, smart and connected communities, and personalized location-based services (Yuan, 2017).
