Abstract
The village stage is of particular interest to archaeology because it represents the end of a way of life based mainly on hunting, gathering, and nomadism and the beginning of agriculture and the establishment of the first villages. This period also saw the beginning of pottery represented in utilitarian objects for food preparation and consumption, but also in other artifacts such as figurines and musical instruments. This paper presents data on the evidence of musical instruments from village sites in the Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico, corresponding to the Early Pre-Classic period.
