The rattles and other percussion instruments of Teotihuacan, Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
Based on the finds of Teotihuacan sound artefacts and their depiction in music iconography the percussion instruments (idiophones and membranophones) of the metropolis are being discussed, among which are various types of rattles, rasps, turtle shells, possible drums and xylophones. The focus is on the organology of the instruments, the archaeological contexts of the finds and, according to the information available, their possible contexts of employment in the ceremonial music of Teotihuacan.
