Occidentalism, “Lapsus americanus”, and the Archaeological Incas
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this short essay principally three topics are discussed: 1) the dependent relationships of the Andean studies especially the archaeology with “academic occidentalism”, 2) the problem to analyze precolumbian societies applying occidental concepts who do not consider the different ways of evolution of Homo Sapiens during the period of separation from the Old World, what I call the “lapsus americanus”, and 3) in the case of the incas, the necessity to separate the archaeological analysis from the interpretation of the colonial sources, which would result in the deconstruction of the prevalent image.
