Abstract

Technological adaptation to climate change in the Peruvian Andes The Andean population needed a constant and progressive technological adaptation to climate changes occurring, along cultural evolution. The constant technological creativity caused the improvement in their quality of life. The varied landforms and its consequent climatic variety, define a variety of “life zones” in the Andes, which being critical impacted by climate change, require constant technological innovation. Climate change, in some cases interpreted as divine plans, caused social and political changes, giving rise to new technologies that would improve the economy. Andean society was able to create new opportunities in times of crisis, using technology, with which, despite the drastic climatic changes, could “tame” their environment at a su- perstructural level. Adaptations or technological innovations occurred in the Andes, they are mainly hydraulic, agricultural, livestock character and food preservation.
