Identify cultural values from archaeology. An exercise on the Maya of Palenque, Chiapas
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cultural values are fundamental for understanding how humans act, from their individuality to their collectivity. In this paper, we present a methodological possibility for their recognition in ancient societies through the analysis of archaeological research results. According to this paper, it is possible because archaeological record is the result of social activities that have been performed repeatedly, within a moral, ethical, and regulatory frame. An exercise has been developed to have a first approach to cultural values from the Maya society in Palenque. Some results are shown as part of the conclusions. As we consider this as the first exercise with the use of this methodology, the author recognizes that further research is needed to enhance this approach.
