Abstract

We assessed the vulnerability to the contamination of the central portion from the valley of Etla aquifer, Oaxaca, Mexico based in the SINTACS method. Direct cur- rent vertical electrical and EM-34 electromagnetic induction soundings enabled to establish the geometry as well as the litology from the aquifer.

In particular, these geophysical studies enabled to obtain key hydrological pa- rameter (thicknesses of the unsatured zone as well as from the aquifer, and the hy- draulic conductivity) in zones without wells.

The vulnerability to contamination was assessed considering a normal impact scenario. Accordingly, we obtain medium to high vulnerability indices, implying that this aquifer is very vulnerable to contamination. Based in this study, alterna- tives for the protection and management from this aquifer can be formulated.
