Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show how the Colombian diplomacy, through the exercise of its core functions of representation, information and negotiation, intervened during the lobbying and legal redress in international organizations by the Government of Guatemala to denounce the plot of the Government of the United States to subvert his authority, and to repel an invasion of a rebel movement organized by the Central Intelligence Agency in 1954.

In this sense, it will be discussed how diplomacy was used to achieve economic objectives related to the access to the American market. In that way, the Colombian diplomacy will produce information on the Guatemalan situation, which will be used as leverage in its relations with the United States, and the Colombian state will take part in the diplomatic isolation of Guatemala in the inter-American and the United Nations systems.
