Abstract

This paper summarizes the results of an investigation carried out on the problem of the Cupatitzio-Marqués micro-basin located in the state of Michoacán. The topic deals with how, from the intensive and diversified use that has been given to the water of the Cupatitzio-Marqués river, since the middle of the XIX century and up to the present time, it has contributed to the transformation of the landscapes, to the environmental deterioration and to the process of formation of power relations of the different sociocultural groups present in the three bioclimatic zones of an ecological unit structured by this stream of water.
