Abstract

This article analyzes the role that women played in the Conquest. This can only be understood within the context of Mexican society. Although in Pre-Hispanic Mexico women were not considered equal to men, there is a record of their activities in terms of gender role, as well as a complementary role in dualistic cosmology.

It is through the archaeological data, as well as in the codices and historiographical sources that the participation of women in warfare is revealed, which was intended for men. In this it is intended to analyze from a different perspective their economic and social identity creating conditions for the defense of their family, community, and city, of which they were part.
