Main Article Content
Abstract
In Brazil, specifically in the Southeast region, the low rainfall indexes that started in 2013 and decreased during 2014 and 2015, characterized aprolonged drought, resulting in a water scarcity, a socially constructed disaster. The aim of this work is to analyze the different perceptions of the Campinas’s population, and their relations with several factors, such as the news broadcast by the press, the spatial distribution of the population and their demographic characteristics. Population perceptions about the water scarcity in the city of Campinas (2013-2015) were analyzed based on the application of a survey (N=200 interviews), with the majority of respondents (56.5% of the total) believing that Campinas experienced a disaster during the period considered.
