Abstract

This article aims to analyze the potential of German thought in anthropology, therefore, discusses the influence of the works of Franz Boas and Clifford Geertz. Boas was anchored in scientistic ideals and working with social science was given mainly from the tension between the science of the spirit, which seeks the study of itself, and the science of nature, which seeks to compare facts. In turn, Geertz critics scientific postulates and enhances anthropology to reveal other ways to reach the truth, to lie in a new way the knowing subject and take the
specificity of the object of the social sciences.
