Abstract

This article shows an approach to the historical process that occurred about of studies on the sound and musical phenomenon throughout the 20th century from academic settings, and seeks to explore the development of some research on the musical environment present in Mexico and Colombia, questioning the ideal of national music as a form of legitimation of some musical genres in official, institutional or academic discourses. In this sense, it takes as an example the presence of cumbia and bambuco in Mexico and Colombia for its presence as important elements in some contexts Mexican and Colombian as historical and identity referents.
