Abstract

The Archaeology of the Coastal Peoples of Northern Chile: New Evidence Since the time of Max Uhle, the northern coast of Chile has been at the fore- front of archaeological studies. For more than a century, important research has resulted in the identification of stages of development and of cultural processes. In recent years, however, due in part to the consolidation of the archaeological profession the development of new analytical techniques and the requirement for environmental impact studies, research has proliferated with great results. This article presents some of the main lines of inquiry that make up the interdisciplinary nature of archaeological science in the north coast of Chile.
