Abstract

The Esteros del Iberá and their surroundings (Province of Corrientes, Argentina) are a macro-marshland not exempt from suffering environmental risNs. They present a great heterogeneity of landscapes, in which, until a few decades ago, economical activities prevailed in harmony with nature. Today, diverse extra-territorial interests, related to afforestation, mega rice com- panies and eco-tourism, are disputing the natural resources, specially water, compro- mising its sustainability. This paper is intended to identify the main risNs to which population is subjected and demonstrate that disasters are not natural as they depend on the grade of exposure and on the population’s vulnerability, in relation to prevention and mitigation measures.
