Abstract

 The economic globalization process has directly influenced of the land use type impacting the rural landscape of Chile and Argentina and specifically on agriculture in both countries. Some effects from the process are: the competition between dif- ferent crops types and agricultural land area demand for productivity to increase the so-called export crops. On the other hand, globalization and integration processes within the context of the neoliberal paradigm in progress, have had significant ef- fects (positive and negative) in agricultural and rural development in the Americas, that is necessary to know to make the right decisions in development policies. The- se issues are addressed by a geographers researchers team the University of Chile and Cuyo National University, with support from the Pan American Institute Geog- raphy and History (PAIGH).
