In this presentation, we present his academic contributions, especially within geography. He was a man of ample spirit, with a great ability to found universities. His proposals of division of the country on eight natural regions and of five cross-sectional ones with development aims get a scientific and general acceptance. In the academic world, he was the main founder of modern geography as a professional work in Peru. His enthusiasm for the geographic studies took it until Colombia in where also it left to an important track in the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano.

The Dr. Javier Pulgar Vidal marked the direction of the Peruvian geographic studies during the time he was professor of human geography in the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. It is enough to see the baccalaureate theses written in the decade of 1970 to confirm it. At the moment his disciples are distributed in all the departments of the country, occupying diverse positions, although perhaps some are not properly geographic.
