Abstract

The manifestation of the COVID-19 epidemic in Central and South America has been rated by the World Health Organization as the most complex in the world. To such an extent is its impact in scope, dimension and intensity that some experts recognize in the pandemic the same devastating effect that World War II brought with it. The arrival of the virus on the regional scene has exposed the serious insufficiencies in food, health and well-being that Latin America and the Caribbean has not yet managed to overcome. The great concern is not only the serious setback in the achievements made, but also the implications of COVID-19 in shaping a new order, which threatens to be less integrated and less inclusive.
