Abstract

This article analyzes the situation of Canadian anthropology, the place that it oc-
cupies in the world and its contributions to the knowledge of the native population of Can-
ada, composed of the members of the First Nations and the Inuit. It reflects on issues of the

present and future of anthropology as a scientific discipline, as well as its contributions to
the knowledge of the contemporary world.
Although Canadian anthropology has made important contributions to knowledge, until
today it has not had much influence on world anthropology. Nor have they had a great
impact on the deplorable conditions in which the native population lives. This situation is
possibly due to its over-determination by paradigms that come from outside, above all,
from United States, British and French anthropology.
