Abstract

During the last years, the studies carried out in hunter-gatherer societies of the archaic period in our country, have had a great boom, including those realized from the physical anthropology perspective. However, such perspective has often forgotten to get to know or understand beforehand the type of society studied. Using the hunter-gatherer concept implies a specific form of social organization that cannot be seen through any archaeological material,
but is guided by previous theoretical conceptions. So in this work, I briefly describe the type of society to which the first settlers of Mexico belonged and their main characteristic features, as a necessary consideration to biological population studies.
